The focus for the Third and Fourth Nine Weeks in Classroom Guidance is Character Education. I have been working with students on the words “Respect” and “Caring.” The students have been learning and working on these character traits by playing games, singing songs, role plays, and reading various stories during classroom time. I have also reinforced the importance of these traits by creating word webs with the students and sharing examples of how to practice these traits at school and at home.
Character Education is an important part of the school counseling curriculum. It helps to decrease bullying and foster a climate in which adults and students are able to work together. Students discuss core ethical values during each lesson and this helps to develop a positive school culture.
For the remainder of the school year I will be focusing on several other character education traits. We will be working on patience, citizenship, and responsibility. Character counts at MES!
